Requirements for Pre-MARC and MARC Programs

Eligibility

  • All Pre-MARC and MARC students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and full-time University of Missouri students in good standing 
  • All Pre-MARC and MARC students must have a passion for research, a strong work ethic and time management skills, and a strong commitment to succeed and uphold the goals of the MARC program. 
  • Students applying to the MARC fellows program DO NOT need to have been in the Pre-MARC program previously to be eligible to be a fellow

Join the Pre-MARC Program

First-year students interested in joining the Pre-MARC program should fill out an informational form below. We will accept new first-year Pre-MARC students up to August 30th. After this date, we will accept new students on a space available basis.

Apply for a Pre-MARC Summer Internship

Pre-MARC students that have joined a research lab can apply for a summer research internship. We anticipate applications for 2025 will open March 15th, depending on the situation with the federal budget and the NIH funding timeline. The anticipated deadline for applications will be April 4. 

 

Summer Internship | Application Components: 

  • General Information 
  • Research proposal limited to 1000 words (or two pages double-spaced, one page single-spaced) 
  • Resume/CV
  • Current (unofficial) transcript 
  • One letter of recommendation from the faculty research mentor 

Apply to the MARC Fellows Program

Current second-year or third-year students that are engaging in faculty-mentored biomedical research are eligible to apply to be a MARC Fellow for the next year. We anticipate applications for 2025 will open March 15th, depending on the situation with the federal budget and the NIH funding timeline. The anticipated deadline for applications will be April 4. 

 

MARC Fellows | Application Components: 

  • General Information 
  • Personal statement limited to 500 words (or one page double spaced) 
  • Research proposal limited to 1000 words (or two pages double-spaced, one page single-spaced) 
  • Resume/CV 
  • Current (unofficial) transcript 
  • At least two letters of recommendation or references (one from the faculty research mentor and one from another science faculty member)
