Website Refresh Ahead

Enhancing the A&S Digital Experience

Building a Better Web Experience

The College of Arts and Science is building a new website structure to create a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. Once launched, our new website will improve how we promote our teaching, research, and service in support of our mission. The first phase of the site is expected to go live Fall 2025.

What's the Goal?

A&S will launch a modern web presence that prioritizes the prospective and student audience on our main website with easy-to-find academics information. We will showcase to our faculty peers, grant funding entities, alumni, donors, accrediting bodies, and community audiences elevated views of research, creative work, and community engagement strengths. We will use an improved user interface and  updated design with effective practices for search engine optimization to aid in recruitment efforts.

Future State:

  • One main College of Arts and Science web property with unit URLs (ex. English.missouri.edu) to easily navigate to key sections and departments
  • Three total museum and collection sites
  • A series of college and university Center and Institute sites built for unique purposes and audiences

What issues are we addressing?

Our current web presence poses roadblocks to our students related to navigation, design consistency, search optimization, and website analytics. Our current system of nearly 100 websites takes substantial time and effort for departments, programs, and the college to maintain.

What are we improving?
  • Web Integration: we will merge sites focused on academic offerings including departments and many programs into one main site for an improved wayfinding experience with a focus on the prospective student. This model follows best practices, prioritizes the user, and has been successfully adopted by other MU colleges.
  • Navigation: we will have an updated navigation that makes it easy to find and discover academic programming, department information, and a unified people directory that’s also searchable by department.
  • Content Management: we are enhancing our partnership with departments and programs on displaying and maintaining site content.
  • Internal Content: we are shifting policies and procedures on our public websites to an enhanced A&S Faculty and Staff intranet – coming soon.

How are we building the new site?
  • Stakeholder feedback: We presented the new web strategy to a number of key A&S groups for feedback including the Executive Committee, Council of Chairs, Advisors, DUGs, Strategic Plan Working Groups, StuCo, and Student Services, among others.
  • Early partners: We are working with a group of departments on the first phase of the build, including the Department of English and Department of Chemistry, among others. We will work directly with teams, departments and programs on the content and build out in their areas as we take on each additional area. Unit leads such as directors and chairs are identifying working group members.
  • Digital Service: The A&S Marketing and Communications team is partnering with Digital Service on the design, build and launch.

NEW A&S Faculty and Staff Directory

A&S's new website will feature a collegewide people directory that can be viewed as a whole or filtered by department.Faculty are asked to fill out the following form to ensure bio page information is current. Faculty bio pages should be an overview of relevant work, not a detailed description. The new directory offers a wide variety of content to include, but not all fields are required.

Note that staff and graduate students will be notified separately.
