Major Initiatives:
- Created a Community Engagement Office within the school to better connect our faculty and students to the community.
- Oversaw the development and implementation of a new Strategic Plan for SPAA.
- Revitalized the SPAA Alumni Association and created a plan to connect alumni to our academic activities.
- Created an MPA Advisory Board and a SPAA Advancement Board.
- Reorganized the structure of the Associate Dean for Student and Academic Programs Office to create better synergy between the faculty and the academic programs office (staff).
- Created a new dean’s only group at Rutgers University Newark with the goal of increasing collaborations within the different schools and degree programs.
Other Activities to Note:
- Analyzed the faculty salary data and determined that some of the women and Asian faculty in the school were underpaid in comparison with others who held the same rank. This investigation resulted in an equity increase in their salaries.
- Created a funded Student Ambassador program for MPA and BA students.
- Facilitated discussions around diversity, equity and inclusion with other deans that led to new courses; conversation around new DEI concentrations; and an overall change in how we view DEI holistically in all of our programs.
- Facilitated a new external grant writing initiative that led to an immediate increase in grant applications and subsequently a dramatic increase in grants received.
- Facilitated a campaign that led to SPAA being ranked 9th in Urban Policy nationally.
- Worked with the SPAA Advancement Board and the Rutgers University Newark Development Office to create two new endowments in the school.
