Merve Fejzula, a postdoctoral fellow of history, earned the 2021 Sara Norton Prize for the best dissertation in American History. This award is granted for the best essay on some aspect of the political history of the U.S.
Merve Fejzula’s work specializes in twentieth-century West Africa's global connections. Her thesis, entitled ‘Negritude and Black Cultural Citizenship across Senegal, Nigeria, and the United States, 1945-66', highlights the consciousness of the value of African culture, heritage, and identity.
