Pfeffer has championed countless causes for his industry, his community, his alma mater, and his fellow alumni. He has successfully nominated 32 individuals for the Mizzou Alumni Association (MAA) Faculty–Alumni Awards and three MAA Distinguished Faculty Awards. An Evans Scholar while in school, he was speaker of the senate for the Missouri Students Association, president of the Interfraternity Council, and a charter member of the Intercampus Council of Students. As an alumnus, he served on the Arts & Science Alumni Organization board for 25 years and is a past president of the board of the MAA Boone County Chapter, on which he continues to serve (since 1983). In addition to all he does for MU, he has been successful in his insurance business as a sales and service representative for Mutual of Omaha, achieving honor club status 33 times. An endowed life member of the alumni association, a sustaining member of the Jefferson Club, and an inaugural member of the Mosaic, Legacy, and Columns societies, Pfeffer has a daughter, Hillary. Pfeffer received an A&S Distinguished Service Award in 2003, the MAA Tiger Pride Award in 2000, the Human Rights and Diversity Enhancement Award from the university in 2004, the MAA Faculty–Alumni Award in 2006, the Vice Chancellor Service Award from CAFNR in 2013, and the Geyer Award from the MAA in 2014.
