Guilherme Julio Ferreira, a Digital Storytelling major from São Paulo, Brazil, has made an impact during his time at Mizzou. With minors in Art and Art History, Guilherme has followed his passion for the arts both in and out of the classroom.
Balancing academics with multiple jobs—including positions at the Digital Media Lab, the Office of International Admissions, and the College of Arts and Science—he’s maintained a high GPA and been a leader in his class. His talent and dedication earned him a spot as a Teaching Assistant in the animation lab.
When reflecting on his experiences, Guilherme points to his time as an International Student Ambassador as one of the most meaningful.
“Working at the Office of International Admissions made me gain a broader perspective on how to deal with people, as well as understand how official processes take place in a work environment,” he shares.
Connecting with other international students on campus also was important to him, particularly during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Even if we are all from different backgrounds and coming from different places, we all know what being far from home is like. Because of that, the coexisting between everyone becomes much smoother and pleasant,” he says.
Guilherme’s involvement didn’t stop there. As a member of the Lambda Pi Eta communications honor society, he helped organize a fundraiser for Second Chance, an animal rescue organization. Whether fundraising or hosting events, he found joy in giving back to the community.
His favorite memories at Mizzou include the challenging but rewarding Digital Storytelling courses, which he describes as “demanding in the sense that creating digital art takes time, effort and energy,” but also the most fun he’s had during his academic career.
He credits much of his success to Chelsea Myers, a Digital Storytelling professor he worked with as a Teaching Assistant. Guilherme calls her one of the greatest professors he’s had and said he is grateful for the skills he gained from her guidance.
Looking ahead, Guilherme plans to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) for a year before heading to graduate school. His dedication, resilience, and creative passion have made him a standout student and a rising talent in the world of digital arts.
