Beginning in fall 2026, the Microbiology program at the University of Missouri will move from the College of Veterinary Medicine to the College of Arts & Science (A&S) in the Division of Biological Sciences.

Microbiology, which includes the sub-disciplines of bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, and immunology, is a cornerstone discipline in the fields of public health, food safety, medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, biotechnology, and biomedical research.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Microbiology students into the College of Arts and Science,” said  David Schulz, director of the Division of Biological Sciences. “This move strengthens opportunities for collaboration, advising, and professional development while keeping students’ academic pathways unchanged.”

There are no changes to Microbiology degree requirements as part of this move. Students will continue following their existing degree plans and gain access to student support from the College of Arts and Science, such as academic advising for course planning and degree progress, Peer Navigators to help connect students with campus and academic resources, and career development support.
