Location: 103 McAlester Hall (Undergraduate Student Lounge)

Psychology can help us understand ourselves and others–improving our friendships, better understanding others and building stronger communities. Visit our Welcome and learn more about the opportunities in the Department of Psychological Sciences. See how Psychology at Mizzou is for you.      

 

10:00 AM–12:00 PM COMMunity Open House

Location: Switzler Hall

Come visit the Department of Communication in historic Switzler Hall. Visitors can meet faculty and academic advisors, take a tour with current COMM majors, grab a snack with their information… and maybe even win a prize!          

 

10:00 AM–12:00 PM Women’s and Gender Studies Open House

Location: 325 Strickland Hall

Stop by Women’s and Gender Studies to meet faculty, hear about our fall course offerings, and learn about the WGST major. There will be bagels, donuts, and coffee (gluten free options available).

Location: Middlebush Lobby

The Department of Black Studies is holding an open house for you to meet faculty and other students and learn about what we do. Stop by Black Studies to meet faculty, hear about our fall course offerings, and learn about the major. Come join us!

 

11:00 AM–1:00 PM The Classics, Archaeology, and Religion Open House

Location: Swallow Hall’s Foyer and Francis Quadrangle

Stop in during your tour of historic Francis Quadrangle to meet the faculty and students of Mizzou’s newest academic department. We invite you to enjoy refreshments, view a selection of the University’s plaster casts of famous ancient sculptures, and shop at the student book sale.      

 

11:00 AM–1:00 PM Department of Geography Open House and Map Extravaganza

Location: West Entrance of Stewart Hall (outside)

Come to the Department of Geography Open House and learn how to read a map, orient your compass, and strike a bearing—all while learning about opportunities for classes, research, fieldwork, and internships in Geography. Receive your choice of one *free* surplus vintage map from the Department’s Map Library. Different sizes (portfolio to wall), ages (1930s-1980s), and languages (German, English, Russian) will make for a perfect map to decorate your dorm room!

Location: Stanley Hall – 2nd Floor Studios

Join us for a social gathering to kick off the Fall 2021 semester.

Location: MU Student Center 1209 A&B

New and returning International Studies students are all welcome to join us for snacks and conversation.  Come meet fellow IS students, and the International Studies director and advisor. A study abroad representative will also be present to help with any related questions you might have.           

 

12:30 PM–2:00 PM MU Theatre Pizza Party Welcome

Location: Rhynsburger Theatre

Join us for a pizza party and introduction to the Theater Department.       

 

12:30 PM–3:00 PM Welcome to the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy

Location: Jesse Hall 410 

Stop by the fourth floor of Jesse to find out about all things Kinder Institute, including our Society of Fellows and D.C. programs, our study abroad classes at University of Oxford and University of the Western Cape, and the College of Arts & Science’s new B.A. in Constitutional Democracy.

Meet SVS faculty, SVS student orgs and clubs student representatives, receive SVS information, a free SVS T-shirt, and make your own SVS button. Snacks provided.

 

1:00 PM–2:00 PM Department of Economics New Student Open House

Location: 129 Professional Building (Economics Department Conference Room)

Meet fellow economics students, as well as faculty, at this drop-in event. Student members of the University of Missouri Economics Society and Undergraduate Women in Economics will be on hand to answer your questions and provide information on how you can get involved with these groups. You will also learn what you can do with an economics degree (spoiler: a lot!) and how much of a return on your educational investment you can expect from your economic studies (i.e. why your parents will be happy with your degree choice).       

 

1:00 PM–4:00 PM Political Science and Public Administration & Policy Open House

Note the 3 PM–4PM hour is for Sophomores

Location: Professional Building, Room 104

We will have snacks and drinks, provide a brief overview of the major and answer any and all questions you’d like to ask. We will also have information about department sponsored clubs (Political Science Club, Model UN, Mock Trial, Moot Court, and Debate). On hand to answer questions will be undergraduate advisers, Truman School faculty, and students who can tell you more about the clubs. 

 

1:00 PM–3:00 PM Department of Anthropology Open House

Location: Swallow Hall (start in Room 111)

The Department of Anthropology is holding an open house for you to meet faculty and other students and learn about what we do. We will have light snacks, building tours (including labs with reproductions of human fossils), and probably atl-atl throwing on the quad! (An atl-atl is a spear-thrower used by many people in the past.) Come join us!

 

1:00 PM–3:00 PM Statistics Open House

Location: Middlebush Hall Room 132

Answers to all your statistics and data-related questions. Also, free refreshments Department of Statistics open house with light refreshments. Bring your questions about statistics undergraduate degrees, our accelerated MA program, the future undergraduate degree in interdisciplinary data science, and DataFest (our annual celebration of data).       

 

1:00 PM–3:00 PM Textile and Apparel Management New Student Ice Cream Social

Location: Gwynn Lounge, Gwynn Hall

All new and first-time campus TAM students are invited to meet your TAM academic advisors and student leaders in person. Join us for tours of the TAM Labs and Tiger Stripe Ice Cream!

 

1:00 PM–2:00 PM Biology Lab and Greenhouse Tours

Location: 3 Tucker Hall (Biology Advising)

Welcome Biology majors! Come check out some of the leading-edge research being conducted by Biological Sciences faculty, plus the beautiful and educational Tucker Greenhouse.

Tours will begin every 20 minutes (1pm, 1:20pm, and 1:40pm)

Stop by the Department of History, visit Read Hall, and meet with Prof. Robert Smale—Director of Undergraduate Studies.

 

2:00 PM–4:00 PM Linguistics Open House

Location: Tate Hall 112

Linguistics faculty and returning students will welcome new students to our program. We’ll have information about the Program and some fun linguisticky stuff (“Name that Phoneme” Contest, anyone?). Feel free to stop for a few minutes or stay for the whole time.

A relaxed, fun event designed to introduce new English majors to some of our best English faculty and students as well as English department staff. They'll be on hand to answer your questions and share their experiences. Snacks will be provided, and we'll play a round or two of "Name That Author" (winning student takes home a gift certificate to one of our local bookstores).
