Griffin retired as a managing director of Griffin Advisors Inc., and has served in various management capacities in the financial services industry for 50 years. He was senior vice president of E. F. Hutton and Co. consulting services department, and he served as senior vice president for Shearson Lehman Hutton and Smith Barney Inc. In 1996, he became a principal in Lockwood Financial Services, which is now a division of Bank of New York. He is a past president of the Kansas City Irish Center and has served as a board member of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Kansas City, Missouri, as well as Catholic Charities of Kansas City, Kansas.

Griffin has been a long-time member of the Jefferson Club and has published two novels. He and his wife, Tula, have seven children.
