BA ’65 History
Cooling’s firm has extensive experience in the purchase, sale, leasing, and financing of airline and corporate aircraft, including domestic and foreign registration and the defense of aircraft owners and insurers in aviation liability, products liability, and insurance coverage cases. The firm represents aircraft owners, FBOs, air charter operators, and numerous Fortune 500 corporate flight departments as well as other aviation-related businesses.
A 1968 graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School, Cooling is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Lawyer Pilots Bar Association, the NTSB Bar Association, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. He is an aircraft owner and pilot holding commercial, instrument, multi-engine, and flight instructor ratings with a Cessna Citation jet–type rating.
He is a former member of the board of directors of the National Business Aviation Association and the NBAA Tax Committee; a past chairman of the Aviation, Transportation and Space Law Committee of the Missouri Bar; past president of the Aviation Insurance Association; a member of the Aviation and Space Law Committee of the American Bar Association; and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the EAA Legal Advisory Council. He has written articles for the SMU Air Law Journal, the NBAA Business Aviation Management Journal, Sport Aviation, and he wrote an aviation legal column for Flight Training magazine for 10 years. In 2011, he was elected to the board of trustees of the National Aviation Hall of Fame.
