In Canent's role as director of Endowment and Foundation services, he addresses new business development and coordinates the portfolio management and service capabilities for institutional clients. He has expertise on a variety of topics including, but not limited to, investment policy design, spending policy, and non-profit governance issues, i.e., UPMIFA. Canent also helps update and educate board members and non-profit organizations across the country.
Prior to joining TIAA in 2017, Canent was senior portfolio manager for BlackRock’s Private Investors Group. Representing Blackrock, he partnered with financial advisers to provide customized investment solutions to their high net worth and institutional clients.
Canent joined BlackRock following the merger with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM) in 2006. At MLIM, he was a senior portfolio manager in the private investors division. Prior to joining Private Investors in 2005, he was portfolio manager for the Private Bank at Bank of America. Canent provided customized solutions for high-net-worth individual and institutional clients including multi-disciplined portfolios, derivatives and exchange funds. Previously, he served as growth equity fund manager and institutional growth equity portfolio manager for Northern Trust Global Investments; as portfolio manager in institutional fixed income and equity and balanced funds for ANB Investment Management and Trust; and as assistant futures broker for both Chicago Corporation and Kemper Clearing Corporation.
Canent was awarded an MBA degree with a concentration in economics from DePaul University in 1990. He is a member of the DePaul Alumni Sharing Knowledge mentoring program.
