MU Theatre Doctoral Candidates Win Kennedy Center National Awards
Aaron Michael Scully is a teacher, scholar, playwright, actor and director. He has an MBA and an MA in theatre both from the University of Central Missouri and is a doctoral candidate in theatre studies at the University of Missouri – Columbia. In fall 2017, Aaron will begin working as an instructor of theatre at the University of Central Missouri.
Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, working together with Planet Earth Arts and Stanford University, awarded Scully’s play Nah’zhee the 2016 Planet Earth Arts Playwriting Award, which resulted in a performance at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Xiomara Cornejo is a Salvadoran-American theatre director, designer and arts activist. Cornejo is a PhD student of theatre and performance studies, and an associate director of the Center for Applied Theatre and Drama Research at University of Missouri-Columbia. Her research centers on visual performance and protest theatre across the Americas. Cornejo is the graduate student representative for the American Theatre and Drama Society, and president of the Latino Graduate Professional Network at University of Missouri.
