Afro-Cuban Issues and Racial Ideology in Cuba

The Afro-Romance Institute and the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures are bringing two prominent speakers to talk about Afro-Cuban issues and racial ideology in Cuba, on Friday, October 23, at 3:30 in the Leadership Auditorium. Aline Helg, Professor of Latin American History at the University of Geneva, Switzerland will discuss "The Struggle of Afro-Cubans for Equality, 19th-20th Centuries." Cuban journalist Roberto Zurbano will discuss "Trafficking Identities: People, Questions, and Black Authors in 21st Century Cuban Literature." There will be a reception following the event, which is open to the public.
