Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis

This performance, sponsored by the College of Arts and Science, concludes the yearlong centennial celebration of the college. It is open to the public, and tickets are available through the We Always Swing Jazz Series, www.wealwaysswing.org. (Concert Series tickets for the performance are sold out.)

Scholarship and Chalk Awards Reception
Reception for College and department scholarship recipients and Blue, Green and Purple Chalk awardees.
3:30 - 5:00 pm | Stotler Lounge (Memorial Union)Chalk Awards: First awarded in 1974, the Purple Chalk Award recognizes one or more faculty members for teaching excellence. The Blue Chalk Award began in 1986 to honor one or more faculty or professional advisers. The Green Chalk Award, started in 1987, recognizes teaching assistants whose work in the classroom has benefited undergraduate education.
Purple Chalk Teaching Award Winners 2008 are Assistant Professor Frances Dickey, English; Master Sergeant Keith Glindemann, military science; Assistant Teaching Professor William Horner, political science; and Adjunct Instructor Megan McKinstry, German and Russian studies.
Blue Chalk Advising Award Winners 2008 are Research Specialist Devin W. Lammy, family and community medicine; and Assistant Teaching Professor Nicole Monnier, German and Russian studies.
Green Chalk Teaching Award Winners 2008 are Kathy Denker, communication; and Bob Hartzell, art.

Talent Show
7:00 pm | Jesse Wrench Auditorium (Memorial Union)Students will compete for spots in the talent show through auditions on Thursday, February 7 at 7-9 p.m. in Jesse Wrench Auditorium. The top three winners will receive scholarships from the A&S Student Council. The public is invited to attend the performance. There is no charge, and tickets are not required. Arts and Science Etiquette Evening
5:30 pm | Reynolds Alumni CenterThe Career Center sponsors a dinner and presentation on polite social behavior, with Amanda Nell presiding. Included is a what-not-to-wear session on choosing clothing for job interviews; live models will demonstrate proper clothing choices. Nell also will give tips on making small talk in social settings and conduct the session on proper etiquette in a formal dining setting. Students pay $15 for the evening, which includes a gourmet meal. For information, please contact Nicole Niewald, President, Arts and Science Student Council.

The alumni honorees, representing geological sciences, chemistry, communication and theatre, are from New York, Midland, Texas, and San Jose, Calif.
